Well 2007 is just about dawning on us around these days, and its looking out to be a
good year for music lovers all around. 4Hero and The Cinematic Orchestra finally drop their long awaited new albums, and it looks like Soil & Pimp will drop another release also. Although the details surrounding ’Pimpoint’ are few and far between, an new release from this crowd is always good news. This one’s not confirmed as a full length just yet, so more info when we know.
Also in the pipe is a new EP called ’Mashiroke EP’, out early February. Happy New Year!

Thanks a lot.

Even though only seven tracks, this appears as a full album, not a 30-minute mini-one. It's being sold at 2800yen. Haven't found any info on the EP besides a date. I wonder if the Mashiroke EP will again have completely different tracks to this cd, thus being a mini-album, or do they just showcase some tracks on Pimpoint prior to its release, like a "normal" EP would.

Somebody here once tried to explain the Japanese fondness for all these mini-albums, but I didn't quite get it, except that it has to do with pricing.

But as long as it's as good as Soil&Pimp, I don't care. I just want to get every possible piece of their music. Yey, pimps!

Wow! Someone has their ear very close to the ground! No inof on the Japanese site yet, and I've been scratching around trying to find out about the album.

When I saw them live in November they announced that the EP would have 5 tracks. Going on previous form, the lead track will appear on the album and the others will either be new cuts or live tracks. I think the issue of mini albums is used a lot in Japan to try to help push bands, as it gives buyers a real taste of what the band sounds like (more than a single would perhaps) yet it's cheaper than an album. I could be completely wrong though icon_smile.gif

As for the book, yes it is a book of sheet music for about a dozen of their tracks.

i can give you tracklistings for the e.p.:

soil & 'pimp" sessions - マシロケ (mashiroke e.p.)
1.マシロケ (mashiroke)
2.mandera's
3.リハーサル・スタジオでのセッション音源 (rihaasaru sutajio deno setsushiyon ongen)

* mashiroke is probably a contraction; not sure for what though. roke is most likely short for location (roke-shon) and mashi could be evil spirit (mashin). maybe devil's location? who knows?
** rihaasaru sutajio deno setsushiyon ongen means sound (ongen) session (setsushiyon) at (deno) rehearsal (rihaasaru) studio (sutajio); could be a session version for "mashiroke"

this will also include a special ConnecteD portion which is a special portion on the internet that you access when you have cd in your computer.

from the album: satsuriku means slaughter or massacre. red cray is most likely a common misspell for red clay. sambesi is not a japanese word. probably to do with the sambesi (or zambezi) river in africa or something. maybe a remake...

Thought so, too. The Japanese tend to mix up all their R's and L's. icon_biggrin.gif

In that case, great to see how they deal with the tune. It's one of my favorites, perhaps the best jazz piece done in the 70s. The only Zambesi I can remember was from a disco ensemble I can't remember the name of. I doubt it's the same one. icon_biggrin.gif

Satsuriku must be some kind of a repeating thing, as 'Pimpin'' ends up with a Satsuriku No Theme, and on POTY the last song Satsuriku New Wave.

i played with the newish outfit jam at motion blue in yokohama last week.they are an incarnation of soil and pimp and been together over a year as the three piece

jam are made up of midorin-drums...josie-piano...and goldman on bass.motoharu guested on sax on this particular night

and karin..remember her from dj kawasaki album >?did some cool scatting...

sacho djd and asked me to come down and spin some tunes as i was in town on a mini japan dj
tour...he tells me that the new album is completely instrumental again and is a full album.

as far as i can gather there wont be any vinyl but maybe browswood and compost might release something in the future but from what i gather both soil releases
for these respected labels had poor sales.

the trio jam will have a release out possibly in the summer or fall on a new sub label of victor yet to be named.

trust me..

the trio are awesome !

.motion blue is a sit down posh venue costs 20 quid just to get into the place and thats not with food/drinksand they had the crowd (mostly girls by the way...)out of their seats and dancing and generally going crazy !

if you like soil and pimp you:re gonna love jam !

peace
